A large fire broke out at Hyundai Mobis' local plant in India. Because parts produced at this plant are supplied to Hyundai Motor's plant in India, production disruptions at Hyundai Motor Group are a concern.
According to the industry on the 1st, on the 31st (local time) last month in the afternoon, a fire broke out at a Hyundai Mobis plant near Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The fire that started in the factory's waste storage area spread to the electrical components and chassis production buildings. Fire authorities were dispatched to the scene immediately after the report and carried out extinguishing operations, and the fire was brought under control in about three to four hours.
At the time of the fire, about 500 workers evacuated immediately and there were no casualties. However, one parts plant building that produces electrical components and chassis was completely burned, and related equipment and spare parts were reportedly lost. The module production building, the battery system production building, and the after-sales parts storage building were found to have no fire damage.
Because the fire-hit plant supplies chassis and other parts to Hyundai Motor's Chennai plant, production disruptions are a concern. The Chennai plant produces local strategic models such as the Creta.
A Hyundai Mobis official said, "We are working with local fire authorities to investigate the exact cause of the fire and will do our best to prevent a recurrence," adding, "To minimize production disruptions and stabilize operations quickly, we are consulting with automakers and preparing countermeasures."
