Hanwha Group and Hanwha Aerospace said on the 1st that they "express our deepest condolences" over the fatal accident at the Hanwha Aerospace Daejeon plant.
In a statement that afternoon, they said, "We are grief-stricken and saddened that five valued employees have died. We pray for the repose of the deceased employees and offer our sincere condolences to their bereaved families," and stated accordingly.
Hanwha Group and Hanwha Aerospace said, "We pray for the swift recovery of the employees injured in the accident and will spare no support for their treatment," adding, "We also bow our heads in apology to the public. We will do our utmost to manage the aftermath of the accident."
Hanwha Aerospace held a countermeasure meeting at its Seoul headquarters chaired by CEO Son Jae-il immediately after the accident, and Son moved to the accident site right after the meeting.
The company also set up a countermeasure headquarters at the accident site, is handling the situation in cooperation with relevant authorities including the fire department and police, and is checking the specific circumstances and damage from the accident.
Hanwha Group said, "We will thoroughly identify the cause of the accident to ensure that such a tragic accident never happens again," adding, "Once again, we deeply bow our heads in apology to the public."
The accident occurred at about 10:59 a.m. on the 1st at the Hanwha Aerospace Daejeon plant in Oesam-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. It was found that five people were killed and two were seriously or moderately injured in the explosion.
