On the 23rd, the second day of a vote by the labor union on the tentative wage agreement at Samsung Electronics, turnout surpassed 80%.
According to the industry, as of 6:40 p.m. that day, 46,185 of 57,290 eligible voters participated in the vote held by the largest union at Samsung Electronics, the Samsung Group Supra-Enterprise Labor Union Samsung Chapter (Supra-Enterprise Union), recording a turnout of 80.62%.
At the same time, at the No. 2 union, the National Samsung Electronics Labor Union (Jeonsamno), 6,502 of 8,187 participated, for a turnout of 79.42%. The combined turnout of the two unions is 80.47%.
The union vote, which began at 2:12 p.m. on the 22nd, will run until 10 a.m. on the 27th. If a majority of eligible voters participate and a majority vote in favor, the tentative agreement will be finalized.
However, some shareholders are demanding the agreement be nullified. A Samsung Electronics shareholder group, the Korea Shareholder Activism Headquarters, says the decision on special performance bonuses is a shareholder authority and should be decided through an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders. They also plan to file for an injunction to suspend the effect of the agreement and a lawsuit to confirm its nullity.
