Doosan Yonkang Foundation said on the 13th that it will sponsor the Korea Pavilion at the "61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia," held at Giardini della Biennale in Venice, Italy, through Nov. 22.
La Biennale di Venezia, which began in 1895 and is held every other year, is the world's largest art festival, comprising 99 national pavilions and exhibitions by 111 artists.
As part of its visual arts support program, Doosan Yonkang Foundation joined as a Korea Pavilion sponsor for the first time this year.
The Korea Pavilion, under the theme "liberation space," sheds light on political events and historical transitions in Korean society after the 1945 liberation. Artistic director Choi Bit-na oversees the pavilion, with artists Noh Hye-ri and Choi Go-eun participating. Since last year, Director Choi has served as a supervisor for the Doosan Curator Workshop, and artist Noh built exhibition experience through the foundation's emerging-artist support program Doosan Art Lab.
In addition, novelist Han Kang, along with farmer and activist Kim Hu-ju, artist and singer Lee Rang, photographer Hwang Ye-ji, and artist Christian Nyampeta will join as fellows.
A Doosan Yonkang Foundation official said, "It is very meaningful to meet artists with whom we have pondered and grown at La Biennale di Venezia," adding, "We will continue to support artists who build original bodies of work and pioneer new artistic worlds."
