Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP) is joining hands with Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) of the United States, a corporations specializing in nuclear power plant operations, to bolster nuclear engineering capabilities.
KHNP said on the 12th that it signed a memorandum of understanding with SNC at its headquarters in Gyeongju to cooperate in nuclear engineering. The agreement was prepared to establish a cooperative framework across nuclear plant operations, maintenance, equipment reliability, and engineering overall.
The two sides plan to strengthen their partnership by running technology exchange programs and sharing workshops and best practices, aiming to achieve tangible engineering capability gains and improved operational performance. KHNP plans to use this cooperation to further advance its equipment reliability-centered operating system that has been pursued since the transition to an "engineering system" in Dec. 2023.
Kim Young-seung, head of KHNP's Engineering Headquarters, said, "This agreement is expected to serve as a catalyst for KHNP engineers to broaden their horizons to the world and as a growth opportunity for the domestic engineering system to leap forward," and added, "We will continue to do our best to complete the Korean-style engineering system through close cooperation with overseas operators and international organizations."
