Hanwha Aerospace will supply additional Cheonmu multiple launch precision-guided munitions to Estonia. It is a follow-up achievement made five months after the first supply contract in Dec. last year.
Hanwha Aerospace said that, as the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and the Estonian Centre for Defence Investment (ECDI) signed a government-to-government (G2G) export contract on the 11th, it will supply three more Cheonmu launchers to the Estonian military.
This contract is a follow-up to the Cheonmu procurement contract signed in Dec. last year for about €290 million (about 520 billion won at the exchange rate at the time). The contract then included six Cheonmu launchers, three types of missiles (CGR-080, CTM-MR, CTM-290), and operation and training support.
Estonia is currently pursuing the deployment and modernization of a battalion-size multiple rocket unit under the "National defense development plan 2031 (RKAK 2031)." A Hanwha Aerospace official said, "This follow-up contract not only proves Hanwha's on-time delivery capability tailored to Estonia's schedule, but is also the result of the deep mutual trust built during project execution since the first contract in Dec."
Estonia has procured and is successfully operating Korea's K9 self-propelled howitzers since 2020. In particular, it is said to highly evaluate the excellence and durability of Korean weapon systems, whose performance has been verified in the harsh climate of Northern Europe, a region near the polar areas.
Hanno Pevkur, Estonia's defense minister, said, "This additional procurement of three Cheonmu launchers is meaningful for strengthening Estonia's defense capabilities," and "it is a case that shows cooperation with Hanwha is continuing closely."
Hanwha Aerospace CEO Son Jae-il said, "We find it meaningful that the additional supply will allow us to contribute further to strengthening Estonia's defense capabilities and defense industry ecosystem," and added, "We will continue to actively introduce Hanwha's defense solutions in the Baltic region and bolster our standing as Estonia's trusted strategic partner."
