The Ministry of Science and ICT's Korea Post said on the 11th it will launch a "semi-registered mailbox service" that allows people to send small mail items from their home mailboxes.
The semi-registered mailbox service expands the existing semi-registered service by enabling collection from customers' mailboxes. The delivery time and fee remain the same as before—within 3 days of receipt, at 1,800 won.
The weight limit was expanded from 200g to 500g, and the dimensions were increased from 35 cm to 45 cm for each of length, width, and height. The goal is to make it easier to send small items popular in used transactions, as well as clothing, books, and photo cards.
To use the service, obtain a 16-digit pre-registration number in the post office application (app), then write the last four digits of the mobile phone number along with the address on the surface of the mail item to be sent and drop it in the mailbox.
There is no collection or delivery on Sat.–Sun. and public holidays. Customers who want faster delivery can use the next-day delivery service for a fee of 2,400 won. Korea Post will also cut the price of the "Box No. 0" by 200 won from the previous 500 won with the service launch.
Korea Post President Park In-hwan said, "This semi-registered mailbox service is a new postal service that people can feel in their daily lives," adding, "We will continue to expand life-oriented services that improve public convenience."
