Preparations have begun to tow HMM's cargo ship, which caught fire while at anchor in the Strait of Hormuz, to the nearby Port of Dubai.
According to HMM on the 7th, the tugboat left Dubai at about 8:30 p.m. the previous day and arrived around 3:30 a.m. near the accident ship "Namu." The tugboat was said to have begun preparations, including consolidation with Namu, from 11 a.m. Korea time.
An HMM official said the towing preparations would take several hours. Accordingly, Namu was expected to arrive at the Port of Dubai as early as the morning of the 8th. The distance from the accident site to the towing destination, the Port of Dubai, is about 70 km.
The investigation into the cause will begin after Namu docks at the Port of Dubai. Personnel from the Korean Register in Dubai and a Researcher from the Central Marine Safety Tribunal are expected to take part in the investigation.
The accident occurred at about 8:40 p.m. on the 4th in waters near the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Strait of Hormuz, Korea time. At the time, a total of 24 crew members were on board the ship, including six South Korean nationals, but there were no casualties.
