SK oceanplant said on the 6th it was selected as the preferred bidder to supply floating substructures (floaters) to Korea Floating Wind, one of Korea's largest floating offshore wind developers.
SK oceanplant will participate as the main domestic manufacturer handling the entire fabrication process of the floating substructures for the East Blue Power (EBP) project being pursued by Korea Floating Wind. The floaters are scheduled to be produced at the third plant (1.57 million square meters) in Donghae-myeon, Goseong-gun, South Gyeongsang Province, slated for completion in 2028.
Korea Floating Wind is a multinational wind power developer leading global floating offshore wind power development. It is developing the KFW 1, 2, and EBP floating offshore wind farms with a capacity of 1,125 MW in the exclusive economic zone 80 kilometers off Ulsan.
The wind farms' total annual generation is expected to reach 4,000 GWh. That equals about 12% of Ulsan's annual power demand and the amount of electricity about 1 million households can use.
Chief Executive Kang Young-gyu of SK oceanplant said, "Based on Korea's largest offshore wind manufacturing base and our differentiated fabrication capabilities, we will help build a K-floating industry ecosystem that grows together with local industries."
Park Jang-ho, head of business at Korea Floating Wind, said, "SK oceanplant is a key partner needed to build a safe and efficient supply chain, with proven know-how in large-structure fabrication and quality control."
