At about 4:35 p.m. on the 4th, a fire broke out at a junkyard in Yeonseo-myeon, Sejong, and the main blaze was brought under control in about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Responding to a report, the fire authorities issued Level 1 fire response at 5:09 p.m. that day.
After the flames intensified and the fire spread to a nearby factory, the fire authorities issued Level 2 response at about 6 p.m.
The fire authorities, who deployed four helicopters and 115 personnel to the scene, achieved initial containment at about 7:09 p.m. Accordingly, the fire response level was downgraded to Level 1.
A man in his 60s, identified only as A, suffered a first-degree burn on his arm and is being treated at a hospital.
Sejong also sent emergency text alerts, saying, "Heavy smoke due to the junkyard fire in Wolha-ri, Yeonseo-myeon. Nearby residents should refrain from going out."
Police and fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage once the blaze is fully extinguished.
