Hyundai Motor Group said on the 3rd that it dominated 7 of 19 categories at the 2026 Best Hybrid and Electric Cars Awards hosted by US News & World Report.
Hyundai Motor and Kia each won three categories, tying for the most wins among global auto brands. Hyundai Motor's luxury brand Genesis also won one category.
First, Hyundai Motor showed strength in the electrified and hybrid sport-utility vehicle (SUV) categories. The electric Ioniq 5 was named Best Compact Electric SUV, and the Tucson Hybrid was selected in the Best Compact Hybrid SUV category. Both models have won their respective categories for three consecutive years. The Ioniq 9 also made the list as Best Midsize Electric SUV.
Kia also earned recognition for the value of its hybrid lineup. The Niro was named Best Subcompact Hybrid SUV, and the Sportage plug-in hybrid (PHEV) was selected as Best Compact PHEV SUV. In addition, the Telluride Hybrid won Best Midsize Hybrid SUV.
The Genesis electric GV60 made the Best Compact Luxury Electric SUV category for the first time.
A Hyundai Motor–Kia official said, "This win is clear evidence that models based on the dedicated electric platform E-GMP have overwhelming competitiveness and that the excellent value of the hybrid lineup is being recognized as best-in-class in the North American market," adding, "We will continue to lead the global electrification market by steadily introducing innovative vehicles that meet customers' diverse lifestyles."
