Doosan said on the 29th that it posted 5.0603 trillion won in sales and 340.8 billion won in operating profit on a consolidation basis in the first quarter of this year.
Sales rose 17.7% and operating profit 71.7% from a year earlier. The operating margin was 6.7%, up 2.1 percentage points from a year earlier. Net profit came to 101.5 billion won, up 798.2% from the same period last year.
In addition to increased supplies of electronic materials for artificial intelligence (AI) accelerators and memory semiconductors, improved profitability was driven by higher sales of nuclear power plant components and gas turbines at Doosan Enerbility.
In particular, the electronic BG institutional sector, Doosan's in-house business, led the sales growth. In the first quarter of this year, the in-house business institutional sector posted sales of 702.3 billion won, up 44.8% from a year earlier, and operating profit of 187.8 billion won, up 55.1%.
The electronic BG institutional sector supplies CCL (copper-clad laminate) for artificial intelligence (AI), memory semiconductors, and networks. Doosan said it achieved record quarterly sales as supplies of CCL for AI accelerators and memory semiconductors increased.
Doosan Enerbility posted 4.2611 trillion won in sales and 233.7 billion won in operating profit on a consolidation basis in the first quarter of this year. Doosan said profitability improved on higher sales of nuclear power plant components for the Czech Republic and gas turbines.
Doosan Bobcat recorded 2.2473 trillion won in sales and 207.0 billion won in operating profit in the same period.
A Doosan official said, "In the second quarter, we plan to sustain growth through sales growth of existing AI accelerator and memory-use CCL products and the expansion of new product lines such as optical modules."
