Korean Air Lines said on the 29th that it was elected the chair airline of SkyTeam's Safety, Security & Quality Advisory Group (SSQ).
The SSQ chair airline advises on safety, security, and quality policies commonly applied to SkyTeam member airlines such as Delta Air Lines, Air France, Aeromexico, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, and Aerolíneas Argentinas.
With Korean Air Lines elected as the SSQ chair airline, Bennet Allen Walsh, head of aviation safety and health at Korean Air Lines, will serve as SSQ subcommittee chair for a two-year term.
Korean Air Lines plans to maximize synergy by working with the SkyTeam board to advance key aviation safety agendas and share best practices among members. In particular, it will focus on strengthening standards related to the use of spare batteries in the cabin and on airlines' emergency response procedures and rules for organization and roles.
A Korean Air Lines official said, "We will use this to solidify Korean Air Lines' influence and standing within SkyTeam and to secure a broad base for cooperation among members, thereby further enhancing Korean Air Lines' global competitiveness."
