Doosan Group will set up a new production base in Thailand to proactively respond to rising demand for CCL (copper-clad laminate) driven by the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.

Doosan said on the 29th it will establish a new subsidiary in the Araya Industrial Estate in Bang Bo, Samut Prakan Province, Thailand, and build a CCL manufacturing plant.

The total investment is about 180 billion won. The plant site covers about 73,000 square meters, with construction to begin within the year and mass production targeted for the second half of 2028. The company plans phased expansions in line with demand to enhance investment efficiency.

The selected production base, Araya Industrial Estate, is about a 30-minute drive from Suvarnabhumi International Airport and about one hour from Laem Chabang Port, offering strong logistics access. As a modern industrial complex, it has operational infrastructure and disaster response systems in place, which also weighed heavily in the location choice by ensuring a stable production environment.

The new Thailand plant will primarily produce high-performance CCL for AI infrastructure and network equipment. CCL is a plate clad with copper foil on both sides of an insulator and is a key base material for printed circuit boards (PCB), which serve as the nervous system of electronic devices.

High-performance CCL is essential for AI accelerators that must process massive data at ultra-high speed, minimizing signal loss and resisting deformation even in high-temperature operating environments. With AI data center investment expanding worldwide recently, demand for high-performance CCL is also rising rapidly.

Doosan has maintained competitiveness in CCL based on materials expertise accumulated over the past 50 years. The key determinant of CCL quality is the "optimal composition ratio" among various materials, which requires sophisticated formulation technologies such as ▲ precise molecular-level chemical bonding ▲ organic interactions among materials ▲ optimization of material properties.

A Doosan official said, "We decided to expand production capacity to respond in a timely manner to growing CCL demand," and added, "We will monitor market conditions and flexibly review additional investment."
