A contractor working at a Doosan Enerbility plant in Changwon, South Gyeongsang, died after being crushed by a panel.
According to the Changwon Jungbu Police Station and the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) on the 28th, at about 10:20 a.m. on the 27th, a 900-kilogram panel collapsed at the Doosan Enerbility nuclear power plant in Changwon, South Gyeongsang, crushing a contractor in his 50s, identified as A. A was injured while installing a power distribution panel inside the plant.
After receiving first aid from in-house medical staff, A was taken to a hospital but died at about 6 a.m. that day.
Police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) said they believe the accident occurred when a stacked panel toppled over during electrical work in a substation because its center of gravity was off.
Police and the labor ministry are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident and whether the Serious Accidents Punishment Act was violated.
Doosan Enerbility posted an apology on its website the same day, saying, "We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased, and we offer our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family members, who must be in shock from the sudden sad news," and added, "The company will fully cooperate with the relevant authorities' investigation and thoroughly identify the cause of the accident to prepare all necessary measures so that such a tragedy will not be repeated."
