Doosan Enerbility said on the 23rd that Chair Park Gee-won and other key executives moved to strengthen a cooperation base to join Vietnam's new nuclear power project.
Accompanying President Lee Jae-myung's visit to Vietnam as part of the business delegation, Park attended a business forum with senior officials from the Vietnamese government and the energy industry and discussed cooperation in the nuclear power sector.
At the Korea-Vietnam Business Forum held in Hanoi, Vietnam, Doosan Enerbility signed separate memorandums of understanding (MOU; Memorandum of Understanding) with local corporations PTSC and PetroCons to cooperate on Vietnam's new nuclear power project and develop the supply chain.
PTSC and PetroCons are subsidiaries of PetroVietnam (PVN), and PVN is promoting the Ninh Thuan 2 nuclear power plant project in central Vietnam. The Ninh Thuan plant is Vietnam's first commercial nuclear power project.
Korea, led by Korea Electric Power Corporation, is seeking to win the Ninh Thuan 2 project with the homegrown APR1400 reactor. Doosan Enerbility said the agreements secure a foundation for building a local supply chain for nuclear equipment and construction, creating a bridgehead for participating in the Ninh Thuan project.
Park said, "The public-private cooperation that has been expanded in unison to join Vietnam's new nuclear power project will lead to meaningful results," adding, "Team Korea, which has already proven its competitiveness in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Czech Republic, will do its best to bear fruit in Vietnam as well."
