HD Hyundai said on the 23rd that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in the United States with Anduril and the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and agreed to expand cooperation in the naval vessel business.
HD Hyundai on the 22nd (local time) signed an "MOU on joint development of an advanced unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) system" with Anduril.
Earlier, HD Hyundai and Anduril signed a memorandum of understanding in April last year to develop an unmanned surface vessel, and in November signed a contract to build an autonomous unmanned surface vessel. The two companies plan to expand cooperation into the submarine domain and speed up their push into the global market, including the United States.
On the same day, HD Hyundai also signed a three-party MOU with ABS and Anduril on "development of an autonomous maritime system and related regulation and certification framework."
Under the agreement, the three companies will cooperate on establishing demonstration and certification procedures essential for the development and commercialization of unmanned naval vessels and on setting unmanned-related regulations.
Joo Won-ho, president of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, said, "The unmanned naval vessel field is the key topic in the global future naval vessel market and a field we must lead," adding, "Through cooperation with Anduril and ABS, we will prove our outstanding technological prowess in the global unmanned naval vessel market."
