Korean Air Lines said on the 23rd it held the 2026 predictive maintenance airline workshop (2026 Predictive Maintenance Airline Workshop) to share predictive maintenance know-how and build a global aircraft maintenance network.
Predictive maintenance is maintenance that anticipates when aircraft parts or systems will develop faults and takes preemptive action. Based on aircraft operating data, it monitors condition to identify early signs of failure, reducing maintenance time and expense as well as the number of cancellations and delays.
The workshop by Korean Air Lines is being held for two days from on the 22nd at the Korean Air Lines headquarters in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. About 70 people from 20 major airlines around the world, including Delta Air Lines, WestJet, United Airlines, ANA, and Swiss International Air Lines, are attending.
Korean Air Lines has performed aircraft MRO (maintenance, repair, overhaul) for decades and, as the first among domestic carriers to introduce the concept of predictive maintenance, became the first airline—not an airframe manufacturer—to hold a predictive maintenance workshop.
At the workshop, participants shared the status of each airline's predictive maintenance, discussed key elements of successful predictive maintenance operations, and exchanged ways to use operational information; they also presented experiences using commercial solutions and introduced airline-developed aircraft fault prediction models.
Yoo Jong-seok, chief safety officer and executive vice president for operations (CSO) at Korean Air Lines, said in a keynote address, "Predictive maintenance is an essential element for an airline's survival," adding, "The workshop is a forum to share a mission to make the aviation industry safer and more efficient."
