LIG Defense&Aerospace (LIG D&A) is teaming up with Milkor, South Africa's leading defense company, to target the global future unmanned aerial system market.
LIG D&A said on the 21st (local time) that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Milkor for "technology cooperation on future unmanned aerial platforms and integrated mission equipment."
The purpose of the agreement is the joint development and global marketing of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platforms—essential equipment on modern battlefields—and the cutting-edge mission equipment installed on them.
An LIG D&A official said, "As the two companies have continuously discussed the development direction of unmanned systems through mutual exchanges, we decided to elevate our relationship to that of strategic partners who jointly plan the development of weapons systems beyond mere technology exchange."
Accordingly, LIG D&A will push to integrate mission equipment—such as its independently developed active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar and advanced electronic warfare (EW) equipment—into Milkor's next-generation UAV platform. Through this, it plans to complete an integrated unmanned system "turn-key solution" capable of everything from surveillance and reconnaissance to precision strikes on a single platform and unveil it to the global market.
An LIG D&A official said, "When LIG D&A's advanced mission equipment technology meets Milkor's proven UAV platform, we will secure competitive products that can lead the global market."
