Hyundai Motor Group took part in the 2026 Semafor World Economy, held in Washington, D.C., from the 13th to the 17th, and presented its future mobility vision and strategy. Semafor World Economy is hosted by Semafor, a U.S.-based global digital news platform. The conference brings together major chief executive officers (CEOs) of the Fortune Global 500 corporations and global leaders from around the world.
Chung Eui-sun, chair of Hyundai Motor Group, said in a written interview with Semafor on the 12th that "as the global market is becoming increasingly segmented, Hyundai Motor Group is navigating the changing global environment based on flexibility and resilience," adding, "the group's approach combines global expansion with regional agility, and we hold differentiated competitive advantages in each region where we do business."
He added, "Global power dynamics are challenges we must navigate," and noted, "thanks to the flexibility and resilience embedded in Hyundai Motor Group's DNA, we can respond well to crises." He continued, "Competition driven by a changing environment is a catalyst for innovation," adding, "in that sense, Hyundai Motor Group welcomes competition."
He also discussed the group's future businesses in Robotics and hydrogen energy. Chung said, "By 2028, we will deploy Boston Dynamics' Humanoid Robot Atlas to manufacturing facilities and produce up to 30,000 units of Atlas annually by 2030," adding, "hydrogen will play a key role in the global clean energy transition." He continued, "Hydrogen is a solution to energy challenges, and hydrogen electric vehicles and EVs are complementary clean technologies."
He also introduced a large-scale domestic investment project totaling 125 trillion won over five years. Specifically, around 9 trillion won will be invested in a 1,124,000-square-meter (340,000-pyeong) site in the Saemangeum area to build a future new-business value chain, including a robot manufacturing and parts cluster, a water electrolysis plant, an artificial intelligence (AI) data center, 1 GW-class solar power generation, and an AI hydrogen city.
On the second day of the event, on the 14th, the future mobility track section will feature José Muñoz, president and global COO of Hyundai Motor, as a speaker. Muñoz plans to explain the multi-powertrain strategy as part of Hyundai Motor Group's energy transition policy amid high volatility in the global business environment and significant geopolitical uncertainty. He will also discuss the importance of responsible investment and partnerships to contribute to technological advancement.
Genesis, Hyundai Motor's luxury brand, which set up a dedicated space at the event, is also participating as a sponsor of the track section. Through the "Genesis Lounge," Genesis aims to offer participants moments of rest and reflection within a space where business networking unfolds.
A Hyundai Motor Group official said, "We will continue to actively communicate with policymakers and business leaders who will drive economic and technological development and will keep strengthening Hyundai Motor Group's leadership in future mobility."
