Hyundai Motor is speeding up its push into the Chinese market with its Ioniq electric vehicle brand at the forefront.
Hyundai Motor said on the 10th that it held an Ioniq brand launch event at Hyundai Motorstudio Beijing from the 7th to that day and unveiled two concept cars for the first time in the world. This is the first time Hyundai Motor has introduced the Ioniq brand in China.
At this event, Hyundai Motor presented a new roadmap that combines the company's safety and quality with technologies tailored to Chinese consumers. Working with Momenta, a Chinese Autonomous Driving technology corporation, it will implement Autonomous Driving optimized for the local market, and introduce in China Hyundai Motor's first extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) technology tailored to the local charging infrastructure.
Hyundai Motor plans to introduce a new model-naming system inspired by "planets," meaning it revolves with a focus on the lives of Chinese customers at the center of the universe.
The event also introduced a new design language targeting the lifestyles of Chinese consumers, "The Origin." Meaning origin, The Origin carries the intent to eschew trends and present Hyundai Motor's own new design.
Along with this, it unveiled the concept cars "Venus Concept" and "Earth Concept," custom-designed for local customers based on The Origin.
The Venus Concept is a sedan inspired by Venus, the brightest planet in the solar system. The exterior is finished in Radiant Gold, symbolizing Venus, and emphasizes a futuristic image with a framed roof structure and a transparent spoiler design. The interior is designed around layered forms and mood lighting that reinterpret Venus's thick atmospheric structure and glow.
The Earth Concept is a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that embodies Earth's vitality and biological balance. The exterior seeks a balance of lines and volume under the Aurora Shield color. Bolt details and a skid plate emphasize an outdoor image. To realize the "small Earth" concept in the interior, air-filled tubes were used to wrap the seat frames.
Li Fenggang, general manager of Beijing Hyundai, said, "Starting with the two concept cars, we will present outcomes that reflect deep consideration and sincerity toward Chinese customers," adding, "We will soon unveil mass-produced Ioniq models that combine smart driving and in-cabin UX experiences most preferred by Chinese customers."
Meanwhile, starting with the 2026 Beijing International Motor Show at the end of this month, Hyundai Motor plans to fully roll out its electrification strategy in the Chinese market. At the event, Hyundai Motor will unveil for the first time the design and product information of the mass-produced Ioniq electric vehicles to be launched in China and will release EV sales and service plans covering the entire process from purchase to maintenance.
