Korea Electric Power Corporation said on Apr. 6 it will build the Gangwon headquarters office as the first grade-1 zero energy building (energy self-sufficiency rate of 100% or higher) among domestic private and public office facilities with a total floor area of at least 15,000㎡.
The new Gangwon headquarters office will be built in Hupyung-dong, Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, with a total floor area of 16,471㎡, with construction to start in the second half of this year and completion targeted for 2029. KEPCO initially obtained preliminary certification for grade-3 zero energy building, but to proactively carry out government policies such as K-RE100 (100% renewable energy use) for public institutions, it decided to upgrade the target to grade-1 zero energy building.
KEPCO's new Gangwon headquarters office will be built in Hupyung-dong, Chuncheon, with a total floor area of 16,471㎡, with construction starting in the second half of this year and completion targeted for 2029. To achieve an energy self-sufficiency rate of 100% or higher, it will expand the installation of high-efficiency solar panels and bring together cutting-edge new energy technologies.
It will also pilot glass window-type perovskite under in-house research and development, ultra-high-efficiency solar tandem cells to overcome the limits of existing silicon cells, and Hydrogen Fuel Cell. In addition, to flexibly respond to newly developed technologies and changes in the energy environment going forward, the building will be constructed with a variable modular structure that allows interior walls to be freely changed and adjusted.
