Korean agricultural machinery specialist TYM Co. said on the 1st that it appointed Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) Kim So-won as the new CEO, accelerating its shift into a global AI and Robotics company.
Through this personnel change, TYM Co. declared a paradigm shift from a business structure centered on agricultural machinery manufacturing to an electronics industry combined with ICT and a software-driven corporations (SDV).
Since joining TYM Co. in 2005, the new CEO Kim has led the company's growth over 21 years, serving in key posts including head of public relations and head of the management support division. The eldest daughter of TYM Co. Chairman Kim Hee-yong, Kim is regarded as an owner-operator who has built experience running the organization along with an understanding of overall management.
In particular, in 2020, CEO Kim led the launch of the subsidiary "TYMICT," which develops Autonomous Driving agricultural machinery and smart farm technologies, and as its inaugural CEO, built the foundation for TYM Co.'s digital transformation (DX). As CSO since then, Kim has focused on securing core ICT capabilities by promoting development of an Autonomous Driving tractor and building a telematics system.
As an inaugural message upon taking office, Kim said, "The future competitiveness of agriculture depends on ICT technologies and the use of data," and added, "We will move beyond simple sales of agricultural machinery and leap forward as a precision agriculture solution corporations that maximizes farmers' revenue."
TYM Co. plans to concentrate companywide capabilities on early commercialization of Level 4 Autonomous Driving technologies, expansion of a data-driven precision agriculture platform, and productivity innovation using AI.
In North America and Europe, the company will also pursue a strategy that goes beyond simple product exports to provide integrated ICT solutions optimized for local agricultural environments. Through AI-based data analysis, it will cut carbon emissions and resource waste and strengthen a technology-centered sustainable management system.
