Samsung Heavy Industries has won its first order this year for large gas carriers.
Samsung Heavy Industries said on Apr. 1 that it won an order worth 342 billion won from a Bermuda-based shipping company for two eco-friendly very large gas carriers (VLGC). The vessels can carry not only liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) but also ammonia, and are scheduled for delivery by May 2029.
Samsung Heavy Industries' cumulative orders this year total 16 ships worth $3.1 billion, achieving 22% of its annual order target of $13.9 billion. By ship type, the tally includes six LNG carriers, two very large ethane carriers (VLEC), two very large gas carriers (VLGC), two container ships, and four crude oil carriers.
A Samsung Heavy Industries official said, "While continuing to win LNG carrier orders, we are expanding our lineup of eco-friendly gas carriers, such as ethane carriers and gas carriers, to enhance technological synergies across ship types."
