According to the oil price information system Opinet, as of 10 a.m. that day, the nationwide average gasoline price at gas stations was 1,873.1 won per liter (L), up 8.4 won from the previous day. At the same time, the diesel price was 1,865.9 won, up 7.9 won.
Fuel prices in Seoul, the most expensive region nationwide, also jumped sharply. The average gasoline price in Seoul was 1,927.6 won per L, up 13.1 won from the previous day, and the diesel price was tallied at 1,902.9 won, up 9.8 won.
Following the average gasoline price in Seoul topping 1,900 won per L the previous day, the third day of the second price cap, diesel also broke through 1,900 won that day, showing strength in tandem.
The government implemented the second price ceiling starting on the 27th. Regular gasoline was set at 1,934 won, automotive and marine diesel at 1,923 won, and kerosene for indoor use at 1,530 won. Compared with the first petroleum price ceiling (gasoline 1,724 won, diesel 1,713 won, indoor kerosene 1,320 won), all fuel types were raised by 210 won.
Since the implementation of the second petroleum price ceiling, gas station fuel prices nationwide have risen sharply, and there is also an outlook that the nationwide average gasoline price at gas stations could soon break through 2,000 won.
Meanwhile, the consumer group Energy and Petroleum Market Monitoring Group said that, as of 5 a.m. that day compared with the 26th, the day before the second price ceiling notice, the number of gas stations that raised prices was found at 6,850 for gasoline and 6,701 for diesel.
