José Muñoz, president of Hyundai Motor, said the company will "accelerate the transition from an automaker to a technology company" as this year's management direction. Starting with the remodeled version of the Genesis G90 full-size sedan due out this year, "Level 2+" Autonomous Driving technology will be applied. The company also plans to strengthen local production systems to expand global production capacity to 1.2 million units a year and roll out region-specific products tailored to diverse global customer needs.
At the 58th annual shareholders meeting held at Hyundai Motor's headquarters in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the day, Muñoz said, "Changes that will significantly reshape the mobility industry over the next 10 years are already reorganizing the industry as a whole," and said the company will prioritize three core strategies this year: ▲ strengthening localization strategy ▲ strengthening region-specific product strategy ▲ accelerating the transition to technology corporations.
On accelerating the transition to technology corporations, Muñoz stressed, "We will leap forward from a corporation that simply produces vehicles to a corporation that creates intelligent systems that produce and move them."
He said, "We are advancing the Pleos technology platform based on a new leadership system," and added, "In particular, we will accelerate Autonomous Driving technology development to deliver innovative driving experiences in more vehicles." Early this year, Hyundai Motor Group appointed Park Min-woo as president, head of the Advanced Vehicle Platform (AVP), who is also the CEO of 42dot.
He explained, "Collaboration with Nvidia, investments in 42dot and Motional, a partnership with Waymo, and building an AI data center in Korea are key activities to secure technological competitiveness."
In Robotics as well, he said the company is preparing to deploy Boston Dynamics' Humanoid Robot Atlas to actual production sites. Through this, the company plans to establish a robot production system capable of 30,000 units a year by 2028. Muñoz said, "We plan to secure an overwhelming technology ecosystem through physical AI infrastructure cooperation with Google DeepMind and Nvidia."
The Autonomous Driving roadmap was also unveiled. First, starting this year, Level 2+ Autonomous Driving features will be applied to the remodeled Genesis G90. Level 2+ allows hands-off driving under certain conditions such as on highways. Currently, only the advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS), which keeps the lane and maintains a set distance from the vehicle ahead, is applied. Hyundai Motor plans to advance Autonomous Driving technology and, starting in mid-2028 with Genesis premium full-size models, sequentially apply "Level 2++" Autonomous Driving technology.
The company will also step up its localization strategy. It will fully operate the new U.S. plant (HMGMA) and begin production of hybrid vehicles in the United States. In addition, Muñoz said, "We will strengthen our local production system by establishing new production bases in India, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam to produce more vehicles closer to customers," and added, "By 2030, on a group basis, we will expand global production capacity to 1.2 million units a year and reinforce structural competitiveness to respond to trade risks."
The company will also put more weight behind its region-specific product strategy. In China, it plans to launch 20 new models over the next five years. Following last year's China-only electric sport-utility vehicle (SUV) "Elexio," it plans to unveil a new electric sedan this year. The future sales target is set at 500,000 units a year, double the previous goal.
In Europe, starting with the unveiling of the "Ioniq 3" at next month's Milan Design Week, the company will launch five new models over the next 18 months and provide eco-friendly versions for all models by 2027. Muñoz said, "In India, we plan to unveil the first locally designed and developed SUV EV in early 2027, invest $5 billion by 2030, expand the Pune plant's production capacity by 250,000 units, and introduce 26 new models over the next 10 years," adding, "We are also reviewing Genesis' entry into India in 2027."
Regarding the domestic market, he explained, "Following last year's strong performance by the Palisade, the new Ioniq 9, and the remodeled Ioniq 6, we plan to launch next-generation models of the Tucson and Avante this year."
Muñoz also said the company will continue to pursue shareholder-return policies and activities to enhance corporate value. He said, "The annual dividend for 2025 has been set at 10,000 won per share," and added, "We will continue to maintain a transparent and clear shareholder-return policy."
