Asia Paper Manufacturing said on the 25th it halted some processes at its Sejong plant after a fatal accident.
According to Asia Paper Manufacturing, on the 24th at the Sejong plant, one worker handling torn waste paper (broken paper) fell into the lower part of the winder puffer and died.
Due to the accident, Asia Paper Manufacturing received an order on the 25th from the Daejeon Regional Employment and Labor Office to partially suspend work on the relevant process and has currently halted operation of the related line.
During the suspension, Asia Paper Manufacturing plans to resume work after commemorating the accident victim and conducting safety inspections and remedial measures across all processes. The timing for resuming production has not yet been decided.
The Sejong plant is a key base for Asia Paper Manufacturing's production of containerboard, and revenue is expected to be significantly affected by the disruption. Asia Paper Manufacturing estimated the damage from the production halt at about 348.5 billion won. This is about 39.12% of the company's total 2024 revenue (891 billion won).
An Asia Paper Manufacturing official said, "We are currently checking the circumstances of the accident," and noted, "All executives and employees, including management, are doing their best to manage the situation and prevent a recurrence."
