Peugeot's new midsize sport-utility vehicle (SUV), the "All-New 5008 Smart Hybrid" (hereafter All-New 5008), is emerging as the answer to the demanding standards for a family car. From convenience when children get in and out to fatigue on long trips and traveling with pets, it is being praised for providing a stable and economical solution for everyday family life.
According to the auto industry on the 25th, the All-New 5008 is a seven-seat SUV launched on Feb. in. With a wheelbase—the distance between the front and rear wheel center axes—of 2,900 mm, it offers roomier and more comfortable interior livability than comparable models. It is not simply a matter of adding more seats. Independent seats are applied in the second row to enhance seat usability. Sliding and folding functions allow for agile responses to various family compositions and cargo situations. The second row has two anchors for installing child seats, which is convenient for households with young children.
The All-New 5008 also pays attention to invisible "details." Ergonomic design has been actively incorporated to reduce cumulative fatigue for the driver and passengers. The seats, certified by the German Campaign for Healthier Backs (AGR), are a prime example. These seats scientifically distribute the load applied to the lower back and pelvis during long drives to help maintain proper posture. The driver's physical exhaustion after a long weekend trip is greatly reduced.
Safety has also been proven in numbers. In the recently conducted European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP), the All-New 5008 scored a high 89% in the child occupant protection category. It received a "Good" rating for protection of children's body parts in the frontal offset and side barrier crash tests, placing it at the top tier in that category. A Peugeot official said, "This is an objective indicator of how safely children can be protected in real accident situations."
As pets have recently become part of the family, Peugeot proposes pet-specific seat belts and cages as official accessories. This not only ensures the safety of pets during travel but also enables pleasant interior management. The role of the family SUV continues to expand.
Its economic appeal is also strong. The All-New 5008 qualifies for low-emission vehicle benefits, offering tangible maintenance cost savings such as discounts at public parking lots and reduced congestion tolls. As a seven-seat model, it is also eligible for acquisition tax reductions for households with multiple children (three or more children under age 18). This reduces the tangible cost burden at the purchase stage.
An industry official said, "A family SUV faces the tough task of satisfying both family well-being and reasonable consumption values," adding, "Peugeot's All-New 5008 offers a balanced answer by encompassing verified safety data, ergonomic design, and even tax benefits for large families."
