The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry said on the 25th that, in line with the government's energy-saving policy, it will join an energy-saving campaign together with 74 regional chambers nationwide. The move follows the government's implementation of a five-day rotation driving restriction for public institution vehicles and its call for the public to participate in power saving, as energy supply uncertainty grows amid prolonged instability in the Middle East.
KORCHAM sent an official letter that day encouraging regional chambers nationwide to join energy saving and instructed them to recommend that their member corporations also participate in the energy-saving campaign. Through this, it expected the practice of energy saving to spread among 200,000 member corporations nationwide.
The five-day rotation driving restriction applies to business-use and commuting vehicles of employees and executives of KORCHAM and regional chambers nationwide. Operations of vehicles are limited once a week based on the last digit of the license plate number, applied in order of Monday (1, 6), Tuesday (2, 7), Wednesday (3, 8), Thursday (4, 9), and Friday (5, 0), with weekends and public holidays excluded.
However, as in the government announcement, the following are excluded from the restriction: ▲ vehicles used by people with disabilities ▲ vehicles carrying pregnant women and infants (preschool children) ▲ electric and hydrogen vehicles ▲ unavoidable business-use vehicles.
KORCHAM also decided to run the energy-saving campaign in parallel with the five-day rotation driving restriction. Under the government's released Energy-Saving Public Action Guidelines, it plans to promote: ▲ maintaining proper indoor temperatures (heating 20℃, cooling 26℃) ▲ efficient elevator operations and staggered heating and cooling ▲ cutting standby power and prioritizing products with the energy-saving mark ▲ switching to virtual meetings, turning off lights during lunch, and shutting off power at the end of the workday.
A KORCHAM official said, "As a statutory economic organization representing 200,000 corporations nationwide, if we take the lead in energy saving and the government, corporations, and the public come together with one heart to participate in energy saving, we will surely overcome this crisis."
