Solus Advanced Materials said on the 20th that it will begin mass supplies of battery foil to two new customers, including CATL, within the first half of this year. The company has secured a total of eight customers, including battery makers and automakers.
Solus Advanced Materials secured four global battery manufacturers as new customers last year. The plan is to supply volumes sequentially, starting with some customers.
First, starting this month, it began shipping battery foil for next-generation cylindrical batteries to a North American customer. The product is a high-end item suitable for high-efficiency batteries, and from next month, supply volume is expected to expand by about four times. The company also projected that supply to an existing North American automaker customer will expand from the second quarter and more than double from a year earlier.
From next month, it will also begin mass supply of battery foil for North American energy storage systems (ESS). Solus Advanced Materials expects about 30% of this year's total battery foil sales volume to come from ESS demand.
In Europe, it is pushing to supply CATL's local plant based on its Hungary factory.
A Solus Advanced Materials official said, "As supplies to new customers get into full swing and existing customers continue to request more volume, overall shipments are expected to increase this year," and added, "We project second-half total shipments to be double those of the first half."
