Sales of some models of Hyundai Motor's new Palisade, which has drawn controversy over safety issues, have been halted.
According to a Reuters report on the 13th, Hyundai Motor that day suspended sales of some new Palisades in the United States and Canada and began a voluntary recall.
The recall covers 68,500 vehicles, including the 2026 Palisade Limited and the top-tier Calligraphy trim.
Reuters reported that the move follows the death of a 2-year-old girl in Ohio on the 7th while a power seat was operating. Hyundai Motor said that in some models of the new Palisade, the second- and third-row power seats may not detect contact with an occupant or object, but it did not disclose specific details of the incident.
At the same time, the company expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family of the girl and said, "The incident is under investigation, and we have not yet confirmed the details."
Hyundai Motor plans to prepare a temporary over-the-air software update later this month to enhance responsiveness to contact with occupants or objects and introduce additional safety measures.
