Doosan said on the 11th that it will participate as a limited partner (LP) in a project fund set up by global venture capital (VC) SBVA and invest €5.8 million (about 9.9 billion won) in the artificial intelligence (AI) startup AMI Labs. Doosan Corp. will invest €3.8 million (about 6.47 billion won), and Doosan Investment will invest €2 million (about 3.4 billion won).
AMI Labs, founded by Yann LeCun, a world-renowned scholar in AI and a professor at New York University, aims to realize "practical intelligence" in which AI understands and reasons about the world like humans by developing world models centered on self-supervised learning and a joint embedding predictive architecture (JEPA).
A world model is an AI model that understands the physical laws of the real world and can predict and judge future phenomena. It is called an essential technology for implementing physical AI that overcomes the limitations of existing large language models (LLM) and vision-language models (VLM).
Yann LeCun is regarded as a figure who laid the foundation of modern Deep Learning, having received the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering, the ACM Turing Award, and other top-tier prizes in science and engineering.
Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, and Eric Schmidt, former chairman of Google, participated in this €30 million (about 51.1 billion won) investment.
