Korea Zinc said on the 6th that it will introduce the Generative AI-based work support platform Chat GPT Enterprise to accelerate its shift to an artificial intelligence (AI)-based smart smelter.
Chat GPT Enterprise is a customized service designed by OpenAI to strengthen data security for corporations and organizations, streamline work, and maximize productivity.
According to OpenAI, several global corporations, including PwC, T-Mobile, Morgan Stanley, and Cisco, are adopting Chat GPT Enterprise to enhance those capabilities.
Korea Zinc plans to roll out Chat GPT Enterprise companywide from mid-month. After building the system on the previous month, it began allowing applicants to try the new way of working first, and is comprehensively checking on-site acceptance levels, ways to expand the scope of use, and actual effects in the workplace.
A Korea Zinc official said, "The reactions from the employees who used it first are very positive."
Korea Zinc will introduce Chat GPT Enterprise through Samsung SDS, Open AI's first domestic partner. Samsung SDS is building an end-to-end (End-to-End) AX framework that spans AI consulting, development and operations, cloud, and security. It provides integrated support for the entire process, from initial strategy development and AI full-stack design to real-world application, companywide rollout, and advanced operations.
With the adoption of Chat GPT Enterprise, AI will assist with or take over repetitive and tedious tasks, allowing employees to focus more on core work. It is expected to enable not only the accumulation of knowledge and know-how based on vast in-house data but also fast and accurate information search.
Chat GPT Enterprise is expected to be a major help for managing and securing technical information, which has become even more important as the business and workforce rapidly expand at home and abroad with initiatives such as the Troika Drive new-business strategy and the construction of an integrated smelter in the United States to stabilize critical mineral supply chains.
In Aug. last year, Korea Zinc created an AI Strategy Team at headquarters to advance work such as equipment diagnostics and process improvements using AI technology. The same month, Onsan Smelter introduced Spot, Boston Dynamics' quadruped robot, for the first time among smelters worldwide. Spot patrols key areas within Onsan Smelter, including hard-to-access blind spots, with various high-performance sensors such as an ultrasonic sensor, infrared camera, and hazardous gas detector, providing safety and environmental management.
It then signed a business agreement with Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) and provided in-house AI specialist training. On the previous month, 291 Korea Zinc employees completed the four-month training program. Over four months, they deepened their understanding of AI and developed the ability to efficiently solve problems that arose on site using it.
In addition, by deciding to apply the enterprise version of Chat GPT companywide this time, Korea Zinc is demonstrating the profile of a leading corporation in the smelting field even in the AI era. It plans to continue steadily applying the latest AI technologies and services and to keep expanding their scope to advance the world's best technological prowess and competitiveness.
