LS Electric said on the 6th that it signed a business agreement to expand the "Powerful ABB project" with Daegu Metropolitan City, Daegu Technopark (TP), and L&F at Smart Factory + Automation World (AW 2026) held at COEX in Seoul on the 5th.
ABB is a term that stands for artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and Blockchain, and LS Electric plans to promote the spread in Daegu of a Korea-style AI factory model based on ABB.
The Powerful ABB project is an economic policy initiative by Daegu City that simultaneously improves productivity and quality on manufacturing floors and supports stronger competitiveness for small and medium-sized corporations. Since 2024, for two years, LS Electric and Daegu City have verified the "Powerful ABB demonstration factory" platform at L&F's Guji plant (located in Dalseong County), a battery materials corporation.
Under the agreement, LS Electric and Daegu City will provide phased support for ABB technology training and application for mid-sized and small corporations in the Daegu region.
Starting with Daegu City, LS Electric aims to take the lead in establishing a domestic model standard by expanding the Korea-style AI factory model to manufacturing corporations nationwide.
At L&F's Guji plant, where the demonstration was completed earlier, equipment data inside the plant is collected in real time and stored and managed on a big data platform, and AI learns and analyzes it to optimize production equipment and process flows.
Aiming for a 48% improvement in production efficiency, LS Electric applied a predictive maintenance system and a virtual metering system, established an LCA (life cycle assessment) system to measure carbon emissions, and applied Blockchain technology to strengthen reliability and security.
An LS Electric official said, "In an era when securing manufacturing competitiveness through AX (AI transformation), including physical AI, determines the nation's fate, we are pleased to work with Daegu City to spread the Korea-style AI factory platform," adding, "We will continue to actively pursue technological advancement and business expansion to drive the digital transformation of domestic manufacturing and strengthen competitiveness."
