CJ Group Vice Chair Lee Mie-kyung was once again noted as an influential leader in the global film industry.
Amy Homma, director of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures established by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), publicly mentioned Vice Chair Lee Mie-kyung as a "leader who inspired the global film industry" in a recent interview and highly praised Lee's leadership. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is the organization that oversees the Academy Awards (Oscars), a global film awards ceremony.
Director Homma mentioned Lee in a recent interview after being named to Los Angeles Magazine's list of "women who represent LA in 2026." Homma said, "I consider it a great fortune to have a connection with Vice Chair Lee Mie-kyung and to receive steadfast support," adding, "Lee has an exceptional ability to connect people to people and create community." Homma continued, "Through a global vision and unstinting support for Korean film, Lee is broadening the landscape of the entertainment industry."
Lee has long served as a bridge so that Asian creators can work in Hollywood, the center of the global film industry. After being appointed to the Academy Museum's board of trustees in 2019, Lee has played a leading role at a key cultural institution in Hollywood and expanded the foundation for Asian filmmakers to stand on the global stage. Most recently, Lee launched the global label First Light Story House to strengthen the discovery and support of content based on Asian creators and Asian stories.
In 2025, CJ ENM, the entertainment affiliate of CJ Group, signed a three-year official partnership with the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Through the collaboration, the two sides are carrying out projects to present exhibitions and programs by Asian creators to audiences worldwide. As the first collaborative project, they have been holding the special exhibition Director's Inspiration: Bong Joon Ho since Mar. last year.
In Jul. last year, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and CJ ENM's K-culture festival KCON collaborated to host K-Culture Night at the Academy Museum with KCON. All tickets sold out within two hours of opening. It is the fastest sellout among official events held at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.
Industry watchers say Lee's efforts go beyond simple corporate sponsorship and serve as a case of broadening the pathway for Asian creators to enter the mainstream of the global film ecosystem.
