Korea SMEs and Startups Agency (KOSME) said on the 24th that it will hold the "KOSME–World Bank joint policy training" in Fiji from the 24th to the 26th in partnership with the World Bank.

The training was promoted to transfer Korea's small and midsize enterprise policy model and support the capacity building of Pacific island countries in formulating and implementing SME policies. About 30 SME policy officials from five countries that received support from the Korea Trust Fund, including Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands, as well as World Bank officials, attended.

In particular, Fiji, where this training was held, is a hub of the Pacific island region where international organizations and major development cooperation projects are concentrated, making it one of the optimal bases to train policy officials from multiple countries in one place. Korea SMEs and Startups Agency (KOSME) sought to lay the groundwork to spread Korea's SME policy model in the dimension of international development cooperation by promoting the joint training with the World Bank.

Korea SMEs and Startups Agency (KOSME) will share its accumulated experience and operational know-how as the SME policy implementing agency in policy funds, growth stage–based customized support grounded in diagnostics of corporations, and overseas marketing. In particular, it will highlight the support system designed to match growth stages and effective policy implementation methods of public institutions.

The training program will address as key agenda items: ▲ the structure and operating system of Korea's SME policies ▲ methods of growth support linking Korea's policy funds and non-financial policies ▲ sharing the status of SME policies by participating country and discussing directions for improvement ▲ mid- to long-term policy cooperation plans between Korea SMEs and Startups Agency (KOSME) and local policy institutions.

Park Jang-hyeok, executive director for global growth at Korea SMEs and Startups Agency (KOSME), said, "This policy training is meaningful in that it has put SME policy cooperation with Pacific island countries into full swing," adding, "Through this, exchanges among SMEs and practical economic cooperation are expected to expand further."
