Genesis, the premium brand of Hyundai Motor, said on the 18th (Korea time) that it held a contract renewal signing ceremony for the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, California, and agreed to extend its title sponsorship of the U.S. Professional Golf (PGA) Tour's Genesis Invitational through 2030.
The event was attended by Hyundai Motor Group Chair Chung Eui-sun; Hyundai Motor Group Vice Chair Chang Jae-hoon; PGA Tour Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jay Monahan; and Tiger Woods, host of the Genesis Invitational.
Marking its 100th anniversary this year, the Genesis Invitational traces its roots to the LA Open, founded in 1926. Genesis joined as the title sponsor of the Genesis Open in 2017.
Chair Chung Eui-sun said, "We are very pleased to expand our partnership with the PGA Tour and TGR Foundation and to continue supporting the tournament through 2030," adding, "With a 100-year tradition, the Genesis Invitational is a stage that showcases the values of authenticity, respect, and excellence that define both the sport of golf and the Genesis brand."
Chung added, "With this historic milestone, we will work with our partners to carry on the tournament's legacy and contribute to creating value for local communities and future generations beyond golf."
Tiger Woods said, "Our time with Genesis has been an opportunity to find new ways to advance the tournament," adding, "We appreciate the continued interest and support for both the Genesis Invitational and TGR Foundation." Woods made his PGA debut at this tournament.
In May last year, Genesis signed an agreement with the PGA Tour to be the official automobile sponsor through 2030, and in July it extended its title sponsorship of the Genesis Scottish Open through 2030.
This year's Genesis Invitational will be held at Riviera Country Club for four days starting on the 19th. The winner will receive $4 million (about 5.78 billion won) and a GV80 Coupe Black model.
