HD Construction Equipment won an order in Mongolia for more than 60 pieces of mining equipment, including ultra-large excavators. Since the launch of the integrated corporation early this year, it has been accelerating its push into the ultra-large market by strengthening sales synergies.
HD Construction Equipment said on the 13th it will supply a total of 63 pieces of mining construction equipment to Mongolia's open-pit mines, including 13 "DEVELON" 100-ton class ultra-large excavators, four 53–65-ton class large excavators, 24 mining trucks, seven "HYUNDAI" 100-ton class ultra-large excavators, two large wheel loaders, and seven 52-ton class large excavators.
The 100-ton class excavators ordered this time have a maximum digging height of 14.3 meters, equivalent to a four-story building. The equipment will be deployed to projects developing Mongolia's open-pit mines, a key hub of the ultra-large construction equipment market, including the Oyu Tolgoi mine, one of the world's largest copper mines.
This large-scale order was made possible by the integrated corporation's region-specific sales strategy, which achieved results through synergies between brands that would have been difficult for individual corporations.
DEVELON succeeded in winning a package order that combined ultra-large excavators and trucks by adding dump trucks from Tongli, which formed a strategic partnership with HYUNDAI in 2024, to its supply lineup. HYUNDAI, in addition to its existing 85-ton and 125-ton products, secured DEVELON's 100-ton class excavator as part of its ultra-large lineup, creating new order opportunities.
For ultra-large excavators, not only equipment quality but also rapid service that can respond immediately to harsh working environments and stable parts procurement are essential. HD Construction Equipment expects, along with expanded profitability through the supply of large and ultra-large equipment, additional equipment orders and increased revenue in the AM (aftermarket) business, which can reach up to four times the product price.
Mongolia, home to some of the world's largest copper and gold mines, is emerging as one of the core markets for ultra-large construction equipment, as resource development centered on open-pit mines continues alongside infrastructure and urban construction led by the local government.
An HD Construction Equipment official said, "Since the launch of the integrated corporation, we have achieved meaningful order results in the mining market, where larger-scale equipment is accelerating, through a sales strategy that maximizes the advantages of the one-company, two-brand system and the resulting synergies," adding, "We will move beyond supplying individual equipment to establish ourselves as a 'total solution partner' that reflects on-site needs."
