Iljin Electric said on the 12th it won a contract worth about 110 billion won to build transmission lines for a 90-megawatt (MW) solar power project underway in Yeonggwang County, South Jeolla Province.
The project connects electricity produced at the "Yeonggwang solar power complex," which KE&E Co. is developing in Yeomsan-myeon, Yeonggwang County, South Jeolla Province, to the grid, building about 54 kilometers of transmission lines from Yeonggwang through Hampyeong to Gwangju Metropolitan City. It is the longest distance and the highest contract value among transmission line projects ordered in the domestic civilian market.
Iljin Electric was selected as the full turn-key contractor in charge of the entire process for this project. It will supply 154-kilovolt (kV) extra-high-voltage cables—the core of power transmission—and all related joints and accessories.
It will also lead the installation of conduits and civil engineering for cable laying across the entire 54-kilometer section from Yeonggwang to Gwangju and integrate all processes through to the final stages of cable pulling and precision jointing.
The Yeonggwang solar power plant is a large-scale 90 MW renewable energy complex, and transmitting the clean energy produced there reliably to the urban area of Gwangju Metropolitan City requires advanced extra-high-voltage grid technology. Iljin Electric plans to minimize power losses and maximize stability based on its high-quality extra-high-voltage cable technology.
An Iljin Electric official said, "This contract recognizes Iljin Electric's EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) capabilities in large-scale renewable energy projects," adding, "We will successfully complete the largest civilian transmission line project in Korea and strengthen our leadership in the expanding renewable energy grid consolidation market."
