LG said on the 8th that it began the third session of the "LG artificial intelligence (AI) youth camp" with a two-night, three-day program starting on the 5th at Seoul National University.
One hundred youths from across the country taking part in this program will, over 10 weeks through May, receive mentoring from 25 mentors made up of Seoul National University faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates as they take on challenges to solve everyday problems with AI technology.
For this training, Seoul National University faculty members including Professors Shin Young-gil, Yoo Joon-hee, Moon Byung-ro, Seo Bong-won, Eom Hyun-sang, Yoo Yeon-ju, and Kwon Ga-jin, as well as Lee Seung-yeon of Sangmyung University, personally taught everything from AI fundamentals to vision AI, design thinking, and coding. Lee Jin-sik, head of the Exaone Lab at LG AI Research, also gave a special lecture on language models and the development process of LG's AI "Exaone (EXAONE (LG AI Research))."
In May, LG plans to select 15 top performers from the domestic curriculum at a results presentation. They will travel to the United States in July to tour Stanford University, big tech corporations in Silicon Valley, and LG Technology Ventures. They also plan to take part in a "global AI curriculum," solving problems with AI alongside youths from around the world.
Applications for the LG AI youth camp open every year starting in September, and any youth who, as of the application period, is from sixth grade in elementary school to second grade in middle school can apply. Participation is entirely free.
LG operates the "LG Discovery Lab," the nation's first hands-on AI education institution for youths, and is working to expand AI education in Korea and bridge the digital education gap. LG Chairman Koo Kwang-mo has emphasized at every meeting with future talent, "LG's dream is to turn imagination into a better future and create a world where everyone smiles," adding, "To realize that dream, 'technology and innovation' and the 'people and talent' who make them possible are precious, and this has been a principle LG has upheld since its founding."
