Hyosung Heavy Industries said on the 5th that it obtained international certification for industrial cybersecurity.
The IEC 62443-4-1 that Hyosung Heavy Industries obtained is an international industrial control system security standard established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). It evaluates the level of technology that responds to a range of security threats at industrial sites such as power plants and rail infrastructure, including cyberattacks, data leaks, and system failures.
With this, Hyosung Heavy Industries has proactively responded to security demands in the global power market while publicly demonstrating its security capabilities for core power facilities where high-level control and operations technologies are essential, the company said.
Because threats of power grid hacking are directly tied to national security, major global markets such as North America and Europe are strengthening security standards for grid infrastructure. A failure in a single facility can lead to large-scale blackouts or degrade the quality of the entire grid, so security capabilities throughout the full lifecycle, from development to operations, are considered a key competitive edge.
Hyosung Heavy Industries can now embed the IEC 62443-4-1 security system from the design stage of key product lines directly tied to power system stability, including HVDC (high-voltage direct current), STATCOM (static synchronous compensator), and ESS (energy storage system). Based on this, the company plans to continuously advance its security capabilities and expand the scope of certification across power system equipment.
