HD Hyundai said on the 2nd that it will showcase next-generation gas carrier technologies at LNG 2026, the world's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry exhibition, to strengthen its leadership in the global market. HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will take part in LNG 2026, held at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) in Doha, Qatar, for four days from today through the 5th.
At this exhibition, HD Hyundai will unveil 178,000-cubic-meter and 174,000-cubic-meter LNG carriers equipped with wind-assist devices, a 100,000-cubic-meter very large ethane carrier, and a 90,000-cubic-meter very large LPG carrier.
It will also strengthen global business cooperation, including new certifications. During the exhibition, it will obtain approval in principle (AIP) from Bureau Veritas (BV) of France for a 20,000-cubic-meter LNG bunkering vessel. It will sign a business agreement with Lloyd's Register (LR) to jointly develop a 30,000-cubic-meter mid- to small-sized LNG carrier, and will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with DNV of Norway to jointly develop a 6,000-cubic-meter LNG bunkering vessel for cruise ships and a 271,000-cubic-meter very large LNG carrier (Q-MAX).
It is also accelerating the development of eco-friendly gas carriers. HD Hyundai will work with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) to develop a Bio-Boosted LNG carrier that can use biofuel, and plans to develop a very large ethane carrier with GTT.
Clarksons Research, a U.K.-based shipbuilding and shipping market analysis firm, projected that LNG carrier orders will gain full momentum this year as gas volumes increase following final investment decision (FID) approvals for U.S. LNG projects.
An HD Hyundai official said, "The gas carrier market is expected to see continued growth amid the trend of tightening environmental regulations," adding, "We will maintain our leading position in gas carriers with overwhelming, differentiated technologies."
