HD Construction Equipment said on the 28th that it signed a supply contract with Hyundai Rotem to provide DV27K engines for K2 tanks to be exported to Poland. This is the second batch following 2022, covering 116 units to be supplied through the end of 2027.
This batch will be installed in domestically made K2 tanks to be exported to Poland starting in the second half of this year. Some will be used as spares and as engines for transmission tests. HD Construction Equipment plans to also supply engines for special-purpose armored vehicles such as recovery, obstacle-clearing, and bridge vehicles.
HD Construction Equipment is the only manufacturer that independently develops and mass-produces engines for K2 tanks. It is also the sole supplier of engines for Türkiye's Altay tank.
The maximum output of the K2 tank engine is 1,500 horsepower, among the highest of any tank engine, enabling the 56-ton K2 to travel at 70 kph. HD Construction Equipment said it was designed to operate reliably even in extreme environments such as strong vibration and shock and high and low temperatures. The company plans to respond stably to medium- to long-term increases in volume through production lines at its Incheon plant and its Gunsan plant, which is set to be completed this year.
