GM Korea's business sites on the 23rd released a statement regarding the Sejong parts logistics center workplace occupation, centered on "offer to hire all 126 parts logistics center workers as regular employees" and "minimizing disruption to customer service."
GM Korea has recently faced serious operational disruptions due to the workplace occupation at the Sejong parts logistics center by its workers.
Conflict between the workers at the Sejong parts logistics center and the employer flared up at the end of last year, but GM Korea had refrained from an official response until now. A GM Korea representative said of the incident, "Until now the company has been exploring various measures behind the scenes to facilitate a smooth resolution, but it refrained from official responses to avoid misunderstandings. However, in the meantime some inaccurate information has been distorted as if it were fact, so the company has decided to cautiously state its position."
GM Korea's position released on the 23rd falls into two main areas. One is efforts to resolve the situation and the other is minimizing disruption to customer service.
GM Korea first apologized, saying, "We regret the unavoidable inconvenience caused to our customers by this matter, and we will do our best to continuously provide stable customer service through a prompt resolution of the issue."
It went on to say, "Although GM Korea has no legal obligation to employ workers of the existing operator WOOJIN Logistics, as part of corporate social responsibility it has offered the opportunity for regular employment to all workers belonging to the existing WOOJIN Logistics."
It explained that it offered regular employment opportunities to the workers occupying the Sejong parts logistics center. Nevertheless, it said only about 20% of the regular employment offers have been accepted.
GM Korea explained, "So far only about 20% have accepted the company's offer. As a result, some workers and the labor union who did not accept the company's offer are illegally occupying the Sejong parts logistics center, causing serious disruption to customer service."
It also clearly expressed its determination to resolve the situation.
In its statement it wrote, "GM Korea is working closely with partner companies, including new logistics operators, to minimize nationwide customer service disruptions and is doing its best to resolve the matter quickly. We also hope that more WOOJIN Logistics workers will respond to the company's hiring offer so the operation can quickly return to normal."
This is how the company summarized the background for its measures and official position.
GM Korea said, "The illegal workplace occupation and obstruction of work at the Sejong parts logistics center have led to customer service disruptions and disruptions to domestic and export business operations, and the damage is spreading to hundreds of domestic small and micro suppliers dependent on parts supply, bringing operations to the brink of paralysis in such an extreme situation."
GM Korea's efforts to resolve the situation are focused on resolving the employment issue of workers belonging to the existing operator WOOJIN Logistics at the parts logistics center.
GM Korea said, "As part of corporate social responsibility, it offered regular employment, including placement at GM Korea's Bupyeong/Changwon plants, to all 126 workers belonging to the existing WOOJIN Logistics, and so far 22 people have accepted hiring, etc." It added that, separate from this incident, the company has newly hired about 1,300 partner company workers as regular employees so far, and plans to hire an additional 48 people in January.
GM Korea also promised to seek a prompt resolution of the matter through continued consultations with government-related agencies.
Measures to minimize customer service disruption were also proposed, such as "loaner vehicle service" and "finding solutions for parts distribution."
For customers whose damaged cars received at the Chevrolet network cannot use insurance-provided loaner vehicles because the insurance policy loaner vehicle provision period has been exceeded, GM will provide GM vehicle loans from Jan. 22 until parts logistics are restored.
Parts distribution will secure necessary parts using a new operating company and GM's global supply chain and implement rapid parts procurement through close cooperation with parts manufacturers. It also prepared measures such as transporting parts from parts suppliers' service center inventories directly or exchanging parts inventories through cooperation among about 380 service centers nationwide and about 200 parts dealers.
It will also strengthen call center operations to support customers in real time and, as parts issues are resolved, will conduct a free inspection campaign for affected customers.
The contract between WOOJIN Logistics, which carried out the workplace occupation, and GM Korea was scheduled to end at the end of December 2025, and consequently a vendor selection process began in November. Many companies, including the existing operator, participated in this process, and a new logistics operator was selected. WOOJIN Logistics, which failed to renew the contract, began bankruptcy procedures in December 2025 and all its employees' labor relations ended. GM Korea offered regular employment (placement at Changwon/Bupyeong business sites) to all WOOJIN Logistics workers, but the workers who opposed this occupied the Sejong parts logistics warehouse.
