Ferrari unveiled the Ferrari 12 Cilindri Tailor Made, created specifically for the Korean market. The one-and-only vehicle is a model in which Ferrari reinterpreted Korean aesthetics through its technology in collaboration with Korean artists.
Ferrari Korea showcased the 12 Cilindri Tailor Made on the 19th at its Banpo showroom in Seoul. The event is the first official event by Ferrari Korea, which launched in Oct. last year. Thibault Dussarrat, head of Ferrari Korea, said, "Korea is a market where dynamic energy and refined taste coexist," and added, "It is an honor to present this special project, which infuses Korea's beautiful traditions and dynamic modernity into Ferrari's most innovative model, the 12 Cilindri, as our first official event."
The Ferrari 12 Cilindri Tailor Made was completed under the theme "inspiration from tradition, propulsion through innovation." The craftsmanship of four teams—Jeong Dahye, Kim Hyun-hee, Grey Code and Jiin, and Lee Taehyun—representing Korea's unique heritage, is reflected in the car. The European Ferrari Styling Centre and the North American creative platform Coolhunting also took part.
For this 12 Cilindri, the project team developed a special paint called "Yoonseul." This bluish color shifts from green to purple depending on the light. Yoonseul is a pure Korean word meaning the sparkling sunlight on sea waves.
Artist Jeong Dahye's traditional horsehair craft is applied throughout the vehicle. The artist's signature pattern is used on the seats, floor and soft interior materials. The glass roof also bears this pattern via a screen-printing technique, allowing occupants to enjoy the beauty created by the interplay of shadow and light as it passes through. The dashboard is fitted with a horsehair craft piece.
Artist Kim Hyun-hee's translucent technique can be found throughout the Ferrari's interior and exterior. The Ferrari lettering emblem and the Prancing Horse logo depicting a rearing horse were produced using a translucent technique. In the trunk space, there is a Korean traditional chest for storing meaningful items, which is also Kim's work.
In addition, artist Lee Taehyun reinterpreted the white lacquer technique in a modern way to create white brake calipers (clamps that grip the wheel from both sides) and white shift paddles (manual shift switches). This is the first time white calipers have been applied. The V12 engine sound, visualized as a musical score by sound artists Grey Code and Jiin, is engraved on the body.
The Ferrari 12 Cilindri is inspired by Ferrari GTs that symbolize the 1950s and 1960s. It is equipped with a new 6.5L naturally aspirated V12 engine that delivers a powerful 830 horsepower. The top speed is 340 kph, and it takes just 2.9 seconds to accelerate from a standstill to 100 kph. Ferrari operates the Tailor Made program for customers who want to custom-build their own Ferrari to perfectly express their individuality and tastes. Only one Ferrari 12 Cilindri Tailor Made was produced, and it has already been sold.
