LG on the 15th appointed Go Yoon-joo, chief sustainability strategy officer (CSSO) of LG CHEM, as head of the Global Strategy Institute.
Established in 2023 under the LG Management Development Institute, the LG Global Strategy Institute is a strategy advisory body that comprehensively analyzes changes in overseas situations and major countries' policies to present LG with strategic response directions.
The new head, Go, is a career diplomat with more than 30 years on the front lines of diplomacy. Go is regarded as a North America diplomacy expert with a high level of understanding of the overall North American market and experience in ESG.
Born in 1968, Go graduated from Yonsei University and entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1995 by passing the 29th foreign service exam, thereafter serving in a broad range of U.S.-related diplomatic posts including first secretary at the Embassy in the United States, consul in New York, and North America policy coordinator.
In 2019, during Trump's first term, Go served as director-general for North American affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in 2021 took the roles of deputy chief of mission and minister for political affairs at the Embassy in the United States. In 2022, Go was also appointed ambassador for international relations of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.
Since 2024, Go has joined LG CHEM and overseen global government affairs and ESG strategy. Early this year, Go also accompanied Koo Kwang-mo, CEO of LG Corp., as part of the economic delegation on a state visit to China.
An LG official said, "At the Global Strategy Institute, we expect to elevate the group-level policy risk response system by strengthening networks with governments of major countries and international organizations, including the Trump second-term administration, and by supporting the establishment of management strategy scenarios in response to geopolitical risks."
