LG Electronics won the 2026 SDV Innovator Awards, hosted by global automotive media MotorTrend, for the second consecutive year, receiving recognition for its differentiated technology in the field of future mobility solutions.
MotorTrend, founded in 1949, is the largest U.S. automotive media group and exerts influence in the global automotive industry by hosting various awards, including the prestigious Car of the Year.
The MotorTrend SDV Innovator Awards is a prestigious award that selects individuals who have led innovation in the SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) field, and this year marks its fourth edition.
LG Electronics VS Business Unit display development leader Kim Kyung-rak, executive vice president, received the Pioneer category award in high recognition for developing vehicle displays beyond simple display devices into intelligent interfaces, a core of software-defined vehicles.
At the core of this award was the "shy tech" realized through the Bendable Moving Display. When not in use, the lower part of the screen folds back to hide, and when the display is needed it unfolds to serve as a large screen. This display, which satisfies both in-vehicle design completeness and functionality, is scheduled to be installed in premium production vehicles in the future.
LG Electronics is accelerating innovation in next-generation displays based on optical technology. Representative examples include the Wide Hover Screen, which implements high-brightness images on the windshield without a black screen, and the ultra-light augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD) that adjusts focus according to the driver's gaze. Last year, in the leader category recognizing those leading SDV-related automotive industry trends, VS business unit head Eun Seok-hyun received an award.
LG Electronics intends to lead the future mobility solutions field through vehicle electronics technology innovation from SDV to AIDV (AI-Defined Vehicle).
LG Electronics unveiled its latest AIDV technologies at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, U.S. It showcased the Display Solution, which applies a transparent OLED display to the windshield to expand the interface across the entire driver seat; the Vision Solution, which applies vision AI to the driver and passenger seats to provide various safety and convenience information according to gaze; and the Entertainment Solution, which uses AI curation to provide context-appropriate services in the rear seat such as content, video calls, and translation. It also introduced the AI Cabin Platform, an on-device AI solution for vehicles aimed at automakers.
LG Electronics has strengthened core SDV capabilities such as in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) display software, telematics, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) through LG alphaWare, a solution for SDV transition.
LG alphaWare consists of PlayWare, MetaWare and VisionWare. PlayWare is an in-vehicle entertainment solution that provides high-definition, high-quality audio-visual content experiences. MetaWare is a solution that uses AR/MR technology to deliver immersive, useful information to drivers, such as navigation and road hazards. VisionWare is a solution that aids driving with in-cabin sensing to analyze occupant behavior through AI algorithms and camera sensors to prevent accidents and lane departure prevention.
LG Electronics realized its future mobility vision of making vehicles "living spaces on wheels" by first applying the automotive webOS content platform (ACP; Automotive Content Platform) to a commercial electric vehicle. ACP extends the diverse customer experiences offered by LG Electronics' proprietary smart TV platform webOS into the vehicle interior, providing customers with a more differentiated mobility experience by offering various premium content such as LG Channels.
Eun Seok-hyun, head of LG Electronics' VS business unit, said, "By analyzing the surrounding environment and occupant condition in real time to provide a safer and more convenient travel experience, we will lead the AIDV era beyond SDV."
