LOTTE Energy Materials said on the 14th that it held its 2026 first-half global strategy meeting for two days from the 13th at its Iksan plant in North Jeolla Province, with key domestic and overseas executives, including CEO Kim Yeon-seop, in attendance.
The meeting was arranged to strengthen capabilities and discuss key issues to enhance competitiveness by business line, including the circuit foil business and the battery foil business.
On the first day, participants discussed ways to secure competitiveness at the Iksan plant, which is pushing a business shift centered on the high-value circuit foil business. The Iksan plant, the only circuit foil production base in Korea, plans to convert the entire battery foil line production capacity (20,000 tons) to circuit foil lines as demand for high-value circuit foil for artificial intelligence (AI), led by big tech corporations, has surged recently. It also plans to secure customer trust by completing approvals early, stabilizing quality, and expanding equipment production capacity.
On the second day, discussions focused on boosting execution to secure cost competitiveness and equipment soundness at the Malaysia plant ahead of high-end battery foil production, as well as responses to portfolio diversification. LOTTE Energy Materials plans to complete Malaysia Plants 5 and 6 in 2024 to produce high-value products such as thin foil, high-strength foil, thick foil, and wide-width foil.
Kim said, "We will vigorously push innovation across the operating system by integrating data-based AI technology centered on production, quality, and development sites," and added, "By expanding the share of new customers and applications by more than 20%, we will minimize sales risks stemming from the slowdown in the electric vehicle market, and when demand recovers, we will focus all of the company's capabilities on preemptive marketing to seize the market and on expanding the discovery of new markets."
