POSCO STEELEON said on Jan. 13 that it installed solar power generation facilities at major business sites, including the Pohang plating plant and color plant, and began full-scale operations.
Through these facilities, about 6.0% to 6.5% of annual electricity consumption will be replaced with renewable energy. By directly purchasing power generated from solar panels covering a total area of about 20,075 square meters and using it for plant operations, the company plans to accelerate the expansion of renewable energy and the achievement of the "2050 decarbonization goal."
POSCO's PosMAC 3.0 was applied to the solar panel supports and cable trays. PosMAC 3.0 is a steel material with advantages of excellent corrosion resistance, long service life, and reduced maintenance expenses. It delivers stable performance even in areas with severe corrosive environments, such as near the coast. This ensured both long-term operational stability and economic efficiency of the facilities.
The construction of the solar power facilities is part of an ESG (environmental, social and governance) management strategy aimed at achieving decarbonization by 2050.
Previously, POSCO STEELEON began installing solar power facilities on the headquarters roof in 2022 and has continued to invest in various facilities to reduce carbon emissions, including the reuse of surplus steam.
