A worker in his 50s died while resting during a night shift at Hanwha Ocean's Geoje site.
According to Geoje Police Station in South Gyeongsang on the 8th, at about 4:35 a.m. that day, a man in his 50s, identified as A, was found unconscious in a break area inside the mid-assembly plant at Hanwha Ocean's Geoje shipyard. He had been on the night shift doing welding work and reportedly did not return to the work site after the break time ended.
Co-workers performed CPR and the in-house fire department at Hanwha Ocean responded, but A died while being transported to a hospital. A police official said, "An autopsy is scheduled for the 9th to determine the exact cause of death."
An official at the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) said, "We have completed the on-site inspection, but it does not appear to be a death caused by external impact," and noted, "We will decide whether to investigate any legal violations after confirming the autopsy results."
